The Rolls-Royce advertising logo of making the best cars in the world was certainly relevant when the Flying Spur model was launched. This model was not just the fastest or most expensive Rolls-Royce saloon to appear on the price list but was also the most exclusive, with just 150 examples being produced by the factory in Crewe. Apart from the restriction in numbers produced it was the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with a turbocharger. The factory announced that although weighing in at 2387kg this model could propel itself to 60mph in a remarkable 6.9 seconds. This newly turbocharged engine also produced the greatest torque of any production car at the time and eclipsed even the McLaren F1 and Aston Martin Vantage.

This impressive Rolls-Royce was ordered new from the Murray Motor Company in Edinburgh, at a cost of circa £150,000, and was delivered straight to Mulliner Park Ward for upgrades and improvements. The original factory build sheet for this Rolls-Royce shows the attractive colour combination of Royal Ebony and Parchment leather in addition to some well thought out enhancements. These include RR insignia and inlay to all doors, veneered panels to all doors with Parchment piping around the door handles and an upgraded power amp. The addition of a Harvey Bailey handling kit, upgraded alloy wheels, picnic tables, electric rear seats and badge bar mean that this car not only looks the part but also handles well. The comprehensive paperwork file that accompanies this Flying Spur includes the original service book and handbooks, receipts for service works, the V5 registration document and an MoT test certificate valid until 21st August 2026. This well presented, well looked after epitome of classic English motoring will still turn heads and is available for a fraction of its original cost. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
