Introduced in 1971, the Rolls-Royce Corniche emerged as one of the marque’s most glamorous and desirable offerings, available in both elegant coupé and refined convertible form. At its heart lay the renowned 6.75-litre V8 engine, constructed with an aluminium-silicon alloy block and aluminium cylinder heads, and fed by twin SU carburettors. Effortless progress was assured via a three-speed automatic transmission, while independent suspension on all four corners - enhanced by a hydraulic self-levelling system - delivered the serene ride for which Rolls-Royce is celebrated. By 1972, ventilated disc brakes further elevated its already impressive engineering credentials.

Distinct from its Silver Shadow stablemates, the Corniche featured a number of exclusive refinements, including stainless steel-trimmed half wheel covers designed to aid brake cooling, a beautifully crafted three-spoke steering wheel with a wood-rim finish, and the marque’s first standard-fit tachometer - subtle yet significant details that set it apart.

Upon its debut, the Corniche quickly became synonymous with prestige and celebrity appeal. Notable owners included Paul McCartney, Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones, while figures such as David Bowie, Michael Caine, Elton John and Dean Martin were reputed to have eagerly joined waiting lists stretching up to two years. Its enduring cultural presence is reflected in appearances across film and television, from Beverly Hills 90210 and Dynasty to Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and The Player.

The example offered here was first supplied to its original owner in 1974, remaining within the same family and being passed down to his son in 2016. As is often the case with long-term custodianship, much of the accompanying documentation has been lost to time. Nevertheless, it has clearly benefited from careful storage throughout its life and, more recently, has been the subject of over £16,000 worth of recommissioning and improvement works carried out by respected Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialists between 2024 and early 2026.

Today, the Rolls presents attractively, with only minor paint bubbling evident on the door tops and lower front wings - areas that would benefit from timely attention.

A rare and distinguished motor car, this Corniche is believed to be one of just 1,091 saloons produced. Finished in the ever-elegant Willow Gold with a Cream leather interior, it represents a compelling opportunity to acquire a remarkably low-ownership, lightly used example of this uniquely charismatic Rolls-Royce.
