Launched in 1962, the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III and its Bentley S3 equivalent employed the 6.2 litre aluminium-alloy V8 engine first introduced in the Silver Cloud II although with larger carburettors, new distributor and raised compression ratio. It also came with a four-speed GM derived automatic gearbox as standard equipment. Most obvious, among many changes from the preceding models, was the adoption of four headlamp lighting, the absence of sidelights from the wing tops and a slightly lower radiator shell. Inside, there was improved accommodation with separate front seats and increased room for rear passengers. Notable as the last mainstream Rolls-Royce to employ a separate chassis, the Silver Cloud III remained in production until superseded by the unitary-construction Silver Shadow in late 1965. The Cloud represented a supremely elegant design and is often regarded as the last true Rolls-Royce.

This stunning Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III was supplied new in January 1964 to Mr Herbert Hugh Follet who ordered the car with electric windows, Marchell parking lights and the larger swan neck overriders. The second owner, W. Riley, purchased the car in February 1975 and took it to California where he had air-conditioning fitted and it remained there until the early nineties. In 1994, the car received a mechanical rebuild including an engine overhaul and the body was then restored in 1995. It was then registered by Donald Savage in September 1995, he sold it the following year to Andrew Stone with 28,168 miles on the odometer. During his ownership, Andrew had the under-wing heater replaced, recondition the gearbox and in 2008 the car received a total respray in this stunning colour combination of silver over chestnut with the odometer reading of 34,269 miles. Our vendor acquired this Silver Cloud III in December 2016 and he has kept the car regularly service and maintained by marque specialists ever since. When he was looking for a Cloud III, he saw several cars which did not come to his high standard. This example was parked in a London garage behind a car he went to see and was not on the market at that time, but it was so good that he made the owner an offer he could not refuse. The original cream leather interior is in very good condition throughout, and it has all its tools. This Rolls-Royce is supplied with a V5 registration document which shows the registration number 1 CWV is not transferable, an MoT test certificate which expires in June 2026 and a file containing invoices, old registration documents and old MoT's starting from the early 1990's.
