Chassis No. BC113CZ Engine No. S3841 On 28 December 1961, an order was placed with long-standing London Bentley dealer H.R. Owen Ltd for the ultimate in personal luxury, a Bentley S2 Continental Drophead Coupe. The right-hand drive chassis was completed on 22 January 1962 and subsequently delivered to Park Ward for the installation of its bespoke coachwork, before the finished car was delivered to M. H. Price of London on 18 May 1962, just in time for the summer season. Finished as specified in Valentine’s Blue Fonce Irise over a Grey Connolly leather interior, the car was equipped with features befitting the Continental’s standing, including electrically operated windows and aerial, underscoring Bentley’s promise of effortless luxury at the height of the S-series era. The rare Drophead Coupe is believed to have remained in the United Kingdom until 1975, when it was shipped across the Atlantic, acquired by Jay H. McDonald of San Antonio, Texas. By 1980, McDonald and his S2 Drophead Coupe moved to Hollywood, California where he is listed as its caretaker with the RROC through 1985. It is believed that the Continental remained in the U.S. until 2006, when it was acquired by a new owner in Spain. Following its time in Españita, and nearly 35 years in dry climates, the car was purchased by its current Belgian caretaker in late 2010. Under the direction of the current owner, the car received a complete no expense spared restoration by Classic Car Service of Antwerp, Belgium. As noted in the accompanying restoration log, the expert team lavished their care and knowledge to transform the car to its current stunning condition. The comprehensive restoration touched every aspect of the car beginning with the chassis stripped bare for sandblasting. This provided the ideal opportunity to begin the process of converting the Drophead from right to left-hand drive for added ease of driving on the continent. After perfecting the effortlessly elegant lines of the Park Ward coachwork, it was refinished as originally specified in stunning Valentine’s Blue Fonce Irise, while the sumptuous interior was retrimmed with fresh Grey hides and carpet. Every aspect of the car was meticulously restored, including the engine, transmission, brakes, and suspension, to return it to its luxurious factory-original specifications. In total, three years of finest British craftsmanship and nearly €280.000 were lovingly spent on this magnificent and detailed restoration. A cherished part of its current owner’s collection since the completion of its exquisite years-long restoration, this S2 Continental Drophead Coupe by Park Ward remains the embodiment of English charm and sophistication. Eligible for numerous touring and concours events worldwide, Bentley chassis number BC113CZ is among the finest examples on offer today and the ideal escape for those who expect a distinguished open-air grand touring experience from one of the most luxurious and elegant offerings of its era.
