Chassis No. BC52XC Before World War II, it was Bentley's tradition to supply rolling chassis for bespoke coachwork while after the war, it shifted to complete cars with the Mark IV, R-Type, and S-Series. Yet Bentley retained its sporting Continental, all of which were exclusive coach-built variants pairing bespoke luxury with high-speed touring capabilities. The final iteration of the S-Series, the S3, was highlighted by the refined power of the all new 6.2-liter V8 and distinctive dual headlight design. This S3 Continental was purchased new by Herbert Crossley Esq. of Brighouse, Yorkshire, through the legendary Bentley agents Rippon Brothers Ltd. in January 1964. The build record shows that the car was to be fitted with a Hirschmann electric antenna by Mulliner Park Ward and was specified with white wall tires. It is reported that by April 1966, the car had moved onto its next caretaker, Brian H. Park of Birkdale, Lancashire. In the ensuing years, the car was converted from right to left-hand drive by the time the S3 was restored in 2010. This restoration saw the car transformed to its current striking two-tone livery, which is continued throughout the car with a matching convertible top, carpeting and leather upholstery with contrasting piping. Documented by digital copies of its factory build records from the Rolls-Royce Foundation, this rare S3 Continental Drophead Coupe remains a sought-after example today. Residing in a Swiss collection since 2012, the Continental has remained on static display in their climate-controlled facility and will require mechanical reconditioning, as it is currently in non-running condition, to return it to perhaps the ideal way to experience the full grandeur of Alpine roads in vintage style.
